Dr. Marayam Majedi
About
Background
Dr. Maryam Majedi is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she leads the Computer Science Education & Embedded Ethics (CS3E) Lab. She joined UCSB in 2023 after completing a teaching stream postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto, where she worked with the Embedded Ethics Education Initiative (E3I) team and introduced the first ethics modules for computer science courses in Canada.
Education
Dr. Majedi earned her Ph.D. in Data Privacy from the University of Calgary, where she developed a novel privacy policy modeling technique. She also holds a Master of Science in High-Performance Scientific Computing from the University of New Brunswick and completed a Fellowship in Medical Innovation at Western University.
Courses
At UCSB, Dr. Majedi teaches large foundational courses, including Problem Solving, Discrete Mathematics, as well as seminars on Ethics and Technology. Through the CS3E Lab, she leads a team of undergraduate researchers dedicated to integrating ethics into computer science education, advancing equitable learning, and developing innovative approaches to help students engage deeply with both the technical and societal dimensions of computing.
